Hip trochanteritis

Patients with throchanteritis (aseptic inflammation of bursa of the greater trochanter) who do not respond to physiotherapy and to at least two injections of corticosteroid and local anesthetic are candidates for arthroscopic treatment. The technique is extra-articular, during which, through two small holes, the pathological area is approached and removal of the bursa of the greater trochanter and, depending on the symptoms, partial detachment of abductors or vastus lateralis from greater trochanter is performed.

Resection of trochanteric bursa (bursectomy) in trochanteritis.

Exposure of the iliotibial band.

Exposure of the trochanteric bursa.

Trochanteric bursa removed - curettage of the underlying bone spurs.
