The new Department of Hip Arthroscopic Surgery has recently opened at the Interbalkan Medical Centre in Thessaloniki. This new department has been organised in order to offer specialist care to a particular group of patients with problems of the hip joint. These patients, usually younger and suffering from sports injuries of the hip, will have the care of a specialist team of doctors, radiologists, physiotherapists and nurses who place particular emphasis on the treatment and rehabilitation of these conditions.
The Interbalkan Medical Centre of Thessaloniki, together with the Athens Medical Group, recognising this area of orthopaedics as a specialist chapter of hip surgery, has created this department to serve patients from Thessaloniki and from the rest of Greece. With state-of-the-art imaging equipment, modern rehabilitation facilities and specialist medical and paramedical staff, the Interbalkan Medical Centre hopes to provide this service in line with all current international standards.
The department is headed by Alexandros Tzaveas who, with his many years of experience in arthroscopic hip surgery and his work with such patients on problems such as tears of the labrum of the acetabulum, cam- and pincer-type femoroacetabular impingement, chondral lesions, peri-articular problems (iliopsoas tendinitis, trochanteric bursitis, abductor tears) and early hip osteoarthritis etc., intends to open a new era in the practice of orthopaedics for the problems of these patients, which until recently were labelled as pain of unknown cause, idiopathic hip pain or early osteoarthritis.
The department will see outpatients weekly, every Tuesday from 10:00 to 12:00 in the morning. For more information, visit the page of the Interbalkan Medical Centre of Thessaloniki at: www.iatrikodiavalkaniko.gr.
