Aim of the study
To assess the medium-term results of hyaluronic acid injection into the hip joint for the treatment of osteoarthritis.
Material and method
The study included 10 patients with osteoarthritis of varying severity, who underwent fluoroscopically guided injection of hyaluronic acid under general anaesthesia.
Results
The patients were assessed at 6 weeks and 6 months and the outcome was evaluated using the Nonarthritic and modified Harris scores. A reduction in pain and an improvement in mobility were found, and the results were better in the patients with milder osteoarthritis.
Conclusions
Intra-articular injection of hyaluronic acid in osteoarthritis of the hip is a minimally invasive treatment that improves symptoms and may therefore delay the need for more major surgery.
