A tear of the acetabular labrum is a very common finding during hip arthroscopy. The treatment options at arthroscopy are partial excision or repair with special sutures, which is also the most modern technique. These sutures are introduced into the bone of the acetabulum by an anchor-like mechanism and reattach the labrum to its base.
New industry studies have shown the superiority of the tape-shaped suture over the conventional suture configuration used until now. This tape configuration (BroadBand tape) provides better conditions for fixation of the labrum without injuring it or cutting through it.
In our practice we increasingly use sutures of this kind, in order to ensure the viability of the labrum and, in the long term, the longevity of the hip joint.
