In athletes, symptoms in both hips require arthroscopic treatment in many cases.  The high effectiveness of unilateral hip arthroscopy in high-level athletes is well established, with success rates of as much as 74 to 93%.  The results of bilateral hip arthroscopy are not yet known, however.

A new study published in the journal “American Journal of Sports Medicine” sets out to answer this question.  According to this paper, 87 high-level patients who underwent arthroscopy of both hips within one year were studied.  The researchers found that the success rates in this group of patients are similar to those in athletes who underwent unilateral hip arthroscopy.
