Aim of the study
To present an interesting case of a tear of the quadratus femoris muscle.
Material and method
A 25-year-old woman with no significant medical history developed pain in the left hip during yoga-type exercise three weeks earlier. The pain gradually became more intense and she developed difficulty in walking. On clinical examination she had a limp and a painful hip with a restricted range of movement.
Results
Magnetic resonance imaging was performed and showed a tear of the quadratus femoris muscle and the formation of a haematoma, with no other pathological lesion seen.
Conclusions
A tear of the quadratus femoris muscle is a very rare injury. Sporadic cases with a similar lesion have been reported in the literature after injuries of significant severity. Nevertheless, a tear of the muscle may also occur after yoga-type stretching exercises.
