The six-monthly cadaveric hip arthroscopy workshop of the Richard Villar School of Hip Arthroscopy is being held under the direction of the British orthopaedic surgeon of the same name. The workshop will take place at the education and research centre of the company “Smith and Nephew” in York, Great Britain. Orthopaedic surgeons specialising in hip arthroscopy from Great Britain and the rest of Europe are taking part. The trainees are orthopaedic surgeons from Europe and from around the world who are taking their first steps in hip arthroscopy and are looking to develop their skills further in this particular technique.
The education and research centre of “Smith and Nephew” houses an experimental operating suite with 16 operating tables, at each of which a human cadaveric hip specimen is used. At each operating table there is one instructor and two trainees. In this workshop the trainees take an active part (hands - on), so that they themselves have the opportunity, with the instructor’s guidance and advice, to carry out the surgical techniques of hip arthroscopy. The first two days are devoted to the basic techniques of hip arthroscopy, while on the third day the Reconstructive hip arthroscopy course takes place, in which advanced and more specialised techniques within hip arthroscopy are performed.
Besides the practical part of the workshop, the instructors give lectures on particular techniques and situations in hip arthroscopy. The whole workshop is under the supervision and direction of the renowned British orthopaedic surgeon Richard Villar, a specialist in hip arthroscopy.
Alexandros Tzaveas is taking part in the hip arthroscopy workshop as an instructor and will also give a lecture on “Removing loose bodies from the hip joint”.
The workshop will be held from 27 to 29 June 2016.
