This is the leading hip arthroscopy workshop in Great Britain, with active participation by those attending (hands-on). It is held in a state-of-the-art training centre in the city of York, built to the latest specifications of a modern operating theatre. There is a ratio of 2 trainees and one instructor to each cadaveric specimen. The workshop is aimed at orthopaedic surgeons from around the world who have extensive experience in arthroscopy and who wish to become more familiar with the hip joint. Trainees have the opportunity to use arthroscopic materials and state-of-the-art instruments for hip arthroscopy, and are exposed to a complete simulation of arthroscopic conditions on the cadaveric specimens.
It lasts two days. The first day is devoted to the basic techniques of entry into and access to the hip (entry into the peripheral and central compartments, capsulotomy, becoming familiar with the 70-degree camera, treatment of simple tears of the labrum), while the second focuses on more complex situations (resection of a cam and pincer femoroacetabular impingement lesion, labral repair, microfracture technique, iliopsoas decompression, exposure and lengthening of the fascia lata, excision of the trochanteric bursa, etc.). The workshop is rounded off with theoretical teaching, with short lectures between the practical sessions.
