A lecture entitled "Hip preserving surgery: before total arthroplasty" will be given by Alexandros Tzaveas on Wednesday, 18 October 2017, at the Interbalkan Medical Centre of Thessaloniki, as part of the postgraduate Continuing Medical Education courses.
«Hip preserving surgery» is a new field of hip surgery internationally. This field covers the surgical techniques used in disorders of the hip, and particularly in young people, in order to treat the symptoms and avoid total replacement of the joint, that is total hip arthroplasty. Hip preserving surgery covers a whole range of surgical procedures that aim to restore the hip joint to its original normal anatomical form, and also to restore the correct biomechanics and function of the joint. Even in older patients, with early wear of the hip joint, hip preservation techniques can offer a great deal in relieving the patient's symptoms and in prolonging the life of the joint before it is replaced. These techniques are usually based on minimally invasive surgery, that is, they involve small incisions and, more generally, procedures of smaller extent.
The lecture will be given in the amphitheatre of the Interbalkan Medical Centre of Thessaloniki at 12 noon and admission is free.
