Hip arthroscopy does not require a hospital stay. This means that in most cases the patient leaves hospital a few hours after the procedure. Before discharge the patient receives initial instructions from a physiotherapist. In this way they learn how to walk with underarm crutches, as well as simple exercises to maintain hip mobility during the first few days.
The majority of patients have minimal or no pain in the first two days after the procedure. Nevertheless, the patient is given simple analgesics to take by mouth. It is very important that all the necessary arrangements have been made so that the patient can begin an intensive physiotherapy programme at least one week after surgery.
