Accuracy in osteoplasty for cam morphology has been a pressing issue in recent years. Various ways of removing bone precisely during this procedure have been proposed, and there are new technological and very promising techniques in use in many centres. One proposed way of increasing accuracy is Computer Navigation, which is used in many centres abroad.
A new study set out to assess the results of using a Computer Navigation system in patients with cam morphology or a combination of cam and pincer morphology, and to compare the results with the free hand technique (a technique without electronic assistance).
The authors concluded that computer navigation can improve the accuracy of bone removal and lead to better medium-term results in terms of the Non-Arthritic Hip Score, but that its advantages are limited as regards the Harris Hip Score, the rate of repeat arthroscopy and of conversion to total hip arthroplasty.
