After the long period during which almost all activity was suspended, throughout the world and in our own country, as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, the transition to a new reality is under way. It is generally accepted that a strict lockdown cannot continue, as the risks of suspending economic and social activity are expected to be extremely great. The practice of medicine forms part of this strategy, all the more so where the needs of patients with emergency, urgent and also chronic conditions requiring surgical treatment are concerned.
Within this framework, the state has decided on the resumption of «cold» and scheduled operations in the coming weeks. Doctors and patients alike will have to adapt to the new reality by faithfully applying, adopting and complying with the new protocols and the guidance of scientific societies and health bodies on practices for scheduling operations in relation to the coronavirus.
The European Society for Sports Injuries and Arthroscopy has published a comprehensive protocol of recommendations and guidelines for managing such cases, for selecting patients according to their condition, and on the diagnostic tests recommended for those who have and have not been exposed to the coronavirus.
